As she was being pushed out, her shoulders were somehow caught and took about a minute longer to come out after her head. This caused her to have a harder time transitioning to breathing and she had to spend a couple of hours in the N.I.C.U. before they let us have her. From my perspective, never having any sisters, never talking much about pregnancy and labor, and having just about as little knowledge on the subject as possible, it was the most amazing (and scary) miracle ever. She weighed in at 8 pounds and 13 oz. and was about 20" long.
Now that we have her in our room we are finding that she is a very hungry baby...She wants to eat about once an hour (which is characteristic of most Houts). Other hobbies include sleeping, crying, and enjoying the occasional bowel movement. We will be here for another night and then we will be able to take her home.
We received beautiful flowers and goodies from friends and family and we want to thank you for your support and love. Come and see her when you can!
